Libertarians and senior lobby unite on … bottle cap puns!

Many a libertarian friend or acquaintance has harassed me for working for the AARP (because of the organization’s stance on things like universal health care and social security). I try to stress that AARP is nonpartisan, and besides, my job—working on the organization’s newspaper and Web site—has very little to do with these lobbying goals, and the bulk of our news content differs very little from that which you’d find at other news publications.

In this vein … I would like to point out that both the July issue of the AARP Bulletin and this month’s issue of Reason magazine (not yet online) contain sympathetic stories about Vaune Dillman, the Mt. Shasta Brewing Co. proprietor from Weed, Calif., who was ordered by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau to stop using the slogan “Try Legal Weed” on his products’ bottle caps.

See now. We can all come together where it’s really important.
